About Us
A former Wesleyan chapel built of Cornish granite in 1842, the historic building has been trading as a fish and chip restaurant for some 70+ years
Found in the geographical heart of Cornwall, Welcome Stranger sits at the centre point of ‘The Saints Way ’, an historic track dating back to the Bronze Age, when traders and drovers used the route from Padstow on the North coast to Fowey on the South coast to avoid the treacherous waters
around Lands End.
In the Dark and Middle Ages 'The Saints Way ' was used by Christian missionaries and pilgrims from Ireland en route to Rome, Santiago de Compostela and the Holy Land.
Whilst pilgrims today may be few and far between, Welcome Stranger provides a welcoming stop for those en route to the South Coast... or further afield!

Welcome Stranger changed hands in early 2023, and is now in the careful ownership of Marc, with head chef Alex overseeing the daily activities.
Both passionate about producing the very best quality, Marc and Alex have seamlessly worked together in multiple restaurants
over the last 15 or so years.

Collectively Marc and Alex have over 45 years of experience within the catering trade, to ensure the very best produce is served,
whether dining in or takeaway.
